Shoestring Radio Theatre (founded in 1988 by Monica Sullivan) is a San Francisco-based, non-profit radio drama company whose productions have aired nationally and internationally. The weekly, 30-minute program has aired locally in the Bay Area on flagship station KUSF-90.3 FM (University of San Francisco) since 1991. "Shoestring Radio Theatre" debuted on the Public Radio Satellite Network (which reaches hundreds of public radio stations across the country) in July, 1993, and has since become one of the most prominent radio drama programs in the country. The program also is heard on Golden Hours Radio in the state of Oregon, the Companion Radio Network (transmitted to convalescent homes, veterans hospitals, and rehabilitation centers throughout the country), and Broadcast Services for the Blind (carried on the SAP channel of KTVU-TV in Oakland).

  • Writer-Director-Producer — Feb 1991 - Present
    Write, cast, direct, engineer, and mix (four-track) full-length, 30-60 minute plays and short, five minute comedy sketches. Body of work includes 25 shorts and 23 full-length plays -- including "Number 13," which has aired in Canada, Africa, Australia, Belgium, and America.

 

 

  • Senior Associate Producer — Mar 1994 - Present
    Behind-the-scenes responsibilities for marketing, publicizing, and promoting the company have included writing press releases for local and national distribution, cold-calling program directors at radio stations across the country to pitch the show, writing and posting job listings, managing design and production of company T-shirts, and other assorted projects.
  • Webmaster — Jul 1995 - Present
    Conceived, planned, designed, and wrote the company's award-winning web site (http://www.shoestring.org), which promotes both "Shoestring Radio Theatre" and its sister program "Movie Magazine International." Responsible for the on-going maintenance, design, growth, and marketing of the web site.

WINS New York Scheduled as news anchor on shows for America's #1 all-news facility. Wrote, produced and on-air talent on two, four-hour 1010 WINS air shifts.

WABC New York Anchor/reporter on 19 newscasts daily in addition to street coverage of all major breaking stories throughout New York City.

WOR New York Reporter on this major New York talk outlet.

WNBC New York On-air talent for regimen of local newscasts; on Soupy Sales & Joey Reynolds shows.

WPIX-FM New York, Tribune Broadcasting Co-hosted morning show; broadcasted eight newcasts daily. Set news policy, designed, wrote and produced weekly public affairs programming.


WCBS -FM New York Wrote, produced, and on-air talent for daily personality news broadcasts on this #1 Oldies station.

NETWORK RADIO PRODUCER-REPORTER-CORRESPONENT

Metro Networks New York News anchor/writer during launching of Metro Network's MetroSource, fledgling national radio network available to 1,200 radio stations nationwide.

UPI Radio Network New York Wrote/broadcast daily, reports on stories emanating from New York City. Engineered satellite feed of stories for international broadcast.

NBC Radio Networks New York Wrote and produced segments for NBC, Mutual and Source networks' internal satellite feed. Also, as assistant to editors and producers, researched and co-produced stories, acted as assitant assignment editor, general assistant in newsroom.


RADIO AIR PERSONALITY

In News...
KMET Los Angeles, Metromedia Anchored local newscasts. Wrote and broadcast "color" news segments and drop-ins. Station was the nation's #1 per capita facility during this period.

WLAC Nashville, Billboard Morning news personality. Also, wrote, produced and hosted a weekly public affairs show featuring national celebrities. Made public appearances. Morning ratings went from 11 to 13 ARB share during tenure. Station was #1, overall.

As Disk Jocky...

Y-107 New York, Big City Radio Air personality on this #1 metro New York Country radio station.

WKHK-FM New York, Viacom Morning Drive air personality. Also did evening radio shows, personal appearances, live celebrity interviews , production. This was America's #1 Country station.

WGCL-FM Cleveland, General Cinema Fill-in air personality (as news director) at this #1 AOR station.


RADIO PROGRAM DIRECTOR

KVWO AM-FM Cheyenne Helped organize music research (with consultant Larry Cobb). Performed Contemporary Country music daily air shift, celebrity interviews, staffing, news reporting/gathering, also sales, copywriting, and production. Twenty-four hour country station was automated with Bill Molek's revolutionary SonoMag, ferrite-core digital processing system. Also, the commercial voice of Cheyenne Frontier Days nationwide. Station was #1.

Movie Magazine International

Movie Magazine International (formerly "Film Close-Ups" on KALX-FM — see below) is a weekly, 30-minute program of movie reviews, interviews and trivia contests which airs on the Public Radio Satellite Network and on KUSF-FM.

  • L.A. Correspondent/Movie Critic/Relief Engineer — 1991 - 1993
    Reported on the film industry in L.A., reviewed videocassettes, and provided engineering assistance in the studio.

  • Co-host, "Film Close-Ups" — Sep 1988 - Jan 1998
    Screened over 100 films per year, reviewed at least one film per week, and interviewed directors, screenwriters and producers for weekly 30-minute film information program. Also involved in producing, promoting, and engineering the show.
  • Substitute DJ — 1990-2000
    Responsibilities during three hour DJ-shifts included programming and playing music, back-announcing songs during microphone-breaks, doing legal station ID's, reading public service announcements, playing underwriting and promo carts, running the control board, and taking meter readings.
  • Producer/Engineer — 1988 - 2000
    Production work included editing (cutting and splicing) interviews, recording promotional spots, and engineering live broadcasts.

I’m a cast member for a national television show on SCI-FI and History Channel which is called Ghost Hunters

I’m the Research & Development Manager for TAPS. I design, test and research new technologies for tools to help paranormal researchers to do there work to collect, inspect and possibly observe/save evidence for the paranormal communities.
