Haunted Weymouth

Haunted Weymouth

Haunted Weymouth by Alex Woodward is a fascinating collection of personal accounts and extensively researched local legends all centred around the seaside town of Weymouth.

To anybody visiting the place, Weymouth looks like nothing more than an ordinary, traditional seaside town. However, behind that inviting and seemingly innocuous exterior of seaside entertainment lie many sinister stories of ghostly happenings and a history steeped in disease, death, bloodshed and turmoil.

Haunted Weymouth is divided into two parts: Around The Town and The Surrounding Area. The first part contains such spooky stories as the ghosts of Nothe Fort (which was voted as one of the UK's most haunted sites), Brewers Quay (where the long-dead spirits of former employees still roam the corridors), The Village Store (one of the oldest and most paranormally active parts of Brewers Quay), and Weymouth's most haunted street, East Street, which is said to be home to no less than six haunted buildings.

The second part of the book covers, amongst other cases, the hauntings of Portland Castle, The Pirates Graveyeard in Portland, the ghostly Victorian lady that roams The Heights Hotel, and the nocturnal phantoms that haunt the small lane known as New Barn Road. In addition, the various reports of the so-called "Devil Dogs" (or "Black Shucks", as they are often referred to) are related, and we are also told about the strange "Time Slip" in which ghostly apparitions of WW II soldiers and army vehicles are said to have appeared.

Each of the two sections is complemented brilliantly by the many photos of the haunted locations and the surrounding areas of Weymouth, and as well the many ghost stories, you will find the turbulent history of the town equally fascinating.

All in all, Haunted Weymouth is a fantastic read for anybody with a keen interest in haunted locations in the UK, and I guarantee that this book will occupy a permanent place on your bookshelf, once you have read all its fascinating tales of ghostly occurrences. It's the sort of book you'll want to dip into again and again, a quality which every good paranormal book should have

Haunted Weymouth can be bought from Amazon or directly from the publishers, The History Press
